DiaLight Optopipe® Light Pipe Description
This Optopipe® is clamped to the inside of the plastic panel. The Light pipe is not attached to the PCB at any point but floats in front of it. The splines on the tubular section on the right hand side hold the Light pipe in place for the clamping operation. The funnel end faces the Light source. The tubular sections fit through the plastic panel. The Light Emitting surface is textured to diffuse the Light passing through it. The Light source can be any super-bright 2mm, 3mm, or 5mm LED, or one of DiaLight’s 597 Series SMT LEDs. The Light source’s Emitting surface should be located no more than 0.020" or 0.5mm from the Optopipe®. The Light sources are mounted in a straight line facing the rear of the Light pipe on a 14mm pitch. The Light pipe material is water clear transmissive polycarbonate rated UL94-V0, and has a 35% oxygen index. DiaLight can provide custom Optopipe® solutions for your applications.

Integrated Light Emitting/receiving elements for automobile VICS

P8212 is a Light Emitting/receiving module consisting of an LED array and a photodiode in the same small package. The width of this module is minimized so that automobile antennas can be designed thin. A lens is also fitted onto the photodiode to increase the amount of input Light. Although the lens makes the photodiode directivity narrow, this problem was solved by separating the photodiode optical axis from the LED axis to match the Light Emitting and receiving areas required for VICS.

DiaLight Optopipe® Light Pipe Description

This Light pipe’s two 3 x 5mm rectangular Light Emitting surfaces appear bright and are optically well isolated. The Light pipe is reliably held in place by 2 press-fit pins located at either end of the Light pipe array. This Optopipe® functions as a through-the-case indicator by conducting the Light over the top of connectors or switches. A textured finish on the 2 Light Emitting surfaces maximizes the viewing angle. The recommended Light sources are DiaLights 597 Series PLCC-2 or PLCC-4 Type SMT LEDs. The LEDs are mounted in a straight line on an 0.550" pitch. The Light pipe material is water clear transmissive polycarbonate rated UL94-V0, and has a 35% oxygen index.
